Over on my sister blog, a little flash fiction. Enjoy.

I recently traveled to London with my daughter and one Saturday night we went to a concert at O’Meara, a newish venue in a small street with a church directly opposite. As we stood in line I kept looking up at part of the stone wall surrounding the church and I swore I saw a carved face in it, though my daughter couldn’t see it.

Later in the evening I ducked out of the concert for a breather and sat in the corner of the bar drinking a cider and scribbled this little piece of flash fiction on a napkin.

Seamus O’Meara was a gargoyle now, and he hated every minute of it. Not that he had any choice. His dad had been a gargoyle as had his grandfather, great-grandfather and all his ancestors from back in the realms of history where the O’Mearas had…

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It’s that time of year again. So ladies go get your boobs checked. It’s important, really important. I should know. Six years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m one of the lucky ones. I went through treatment – chemo, surgery and radiation – and today I’m cancer free.

It was that bout with cancer that got me writing. I’d always wanted to write a book, but felt I had all the time in the world. Cancer made me realize that our time on this earth is limited and that if you really want to do something you shouldn’t delay.

You can pick up my short memoir, The Big C, about my struggle with cancer from all outlets for just 1.99. All the money raised from this title go to Knitted Knockers, a wonderful organization that provides soft breast forms for women who have had mastectomies.

Cryptic Crossroads

Hey folks I have an announcement. I have a puzzle in this new book of Cryptic Crosswords now available on Amazon. The book contains puzzles from setters from around the globe and all proceeds are going to charity.

A little background from Sowmya Ramkumar who runs the awesome group on Facebook, 1Across:

“What brings together, two septuagenarians who have been setting cryptic puzzles for decades, a former Chief secretary of an Indian state, the man behind the popular Amul hoardings, two international scrabble champions, a Hula dancer from Hawaii who deftly handles the hardest clues, a banker from the Middle East who also holds a Guinness award.., this list can go on but let’s cut to the chase! The answer is easy and begins with a C, or two depending on how you see it. In July 2014, a small group of cruciverbalists came together at a Facebook group called 1ACross to post and solve cryptic clues for each other. Soon, we realized how much fun can be had from social interaction in a ‘solitary’ pastime, what with hashtagged themed games that changed and challenged on a daily basis. Since July 2015, we began producing annual souvenirs, using original puzzles contributed by our members and sharing these within the group. As these compilations have been very well received, we wanted to introduce these to a wider audience. We are happy to bring to you our third anniversary collection of puzzles. We plan to donate all proceeds from the sales of this book to Cancer research and Cure. While you will no doubt enjoy solving these puzzles, you also get the satisfaction, that your money is also going towards putting an end to the that ugly C word, which has ravaged the lives of many of our friends and family.”

Pick up your copy of Cryptic Crossroads today.

“The pea soup has spoken,” said Caradog. “You are destined for Londinium.”
“Londinium?” asked Miri.
“It was the ancient city from which London sprang. The P.A.W.S. Institute of Londinium is the oldest in the world. It started before the city of today existed and straddles the old and the new. Unfortunately, today it is run by a fool.”

Join Miri as she continues her journey through Umbrae and Londinium with the help of werecats, wild warlocks, an old dog…
